Program for June 11, 2005 “Double header”: KISD Aviation Program and Flying Tigers
The June 11 EAA meeting will be at the KISD aviation program at the Ford Airport at 10am. The KISD program is located in a white building (w/ yellow trim) on the SE corner of 44th and Paterson or 4950 Van Laar Drive.
Todd Olsen will give us an overview of the Kent Skills Center aviation program. He will then provide a tour of the new facilities, complete with airframes, engines and test facilities. This will be a good chance for us to see how high school students are being trained to be part of general. aviation. Also at 1pm you are invited to “meet and greet the Flying Tigers”. They will be meeting in the attached building, The Michigan Military History Institute from 1 to 3pm. See attached for more information. This is a rare chance to talk with the pilots that defended China against Japan.Notes from last month’s meeting, Saturday 5/14/05
Chapter 145 met at Riverview airport. Hugh held a business meeting at 9:45am. Items for the chapter meeting were discussed.
Capt. Kenn Andrus of the CAP gave an overview of what the Civil Air Patrol in |
Grand Rapids. He outlined the mission, operation and requirements of the CAP.
Bill Wilyard gave us an insight into the operation of an experimental airplane. He outline the continuing modifications necessary to keep his Kitfox in top flying condition. Thanks Bill for a great summery of what it is like to operate an experimental aircraft.
Hangar Renovations (Bill Willyard) Just to keep everyone posted on hangar renovations we have received the metal for the ceiling and Evan and myself picked up additional insulation and hardware for the ceiling. I will also purchase some new fluorescent lights from Home Depot (high output, low temp. operation). We will start work on the ceiling this Saturday. Also we have received $250 Dollars in donations from some of the chapter members. Donations like these helps with many costs and any volunteer help is always appreciated and much is being received.
Meeting Topics: This has been brought this up before, but it is never too soon to start planning for a fund raiser for next year. I also think that the chapter needs to consider a dues increase for next year as well. Our dues have not kept up with inflation to say nothing about the chapters increased obligations. In addition the chapter will need to agree on procedure or donation schedule for use of the hangar for personal projects to help cover costs |
