Program for December 10, 2005

Annual Christmas Supper for the whole family.  No morning meeting.  The chapter will meet for supper (come at 5:30, eat at 6:00pm).  Plan to bring a dish to pass; the Chapter will supply the meat, drinks and tableware

Notes from November meeting, Saturday 11/12/05

Chapter 145 met at Riverview airport at 10am, 15 members and 2 guests.  Hugh introduced several topics that were discussed by the members and then Todd Olson presented an idea to increase aviation interest.

  • Dues:  The members discussed an increase in dues to help cover chapter cost, insurance postage and fees.   Annual dues of $25 were voted on and passed, effective 1/1/06.
  • Fees for EAA145 Hanger use were discussed.  Topics covered were; liability of a project (owner should carry insurance) cost of heat in winter (spread out over 12 mo.), the size of the project (% of floor space), nature of the project (long term vs. short term).  The membership agreed that the Chapter officers would consider request to have projects in the Chapter Hanger for a reasonable donation to the Chapter ($50-$100)
  • Outside groups that request the use of the EAA Hanger for special meetings.  The members discussed the possibility of aviation related groups being able to request the occasional use of the Hanger provided proper safety procedures were followed.  The Chapter officers would consider request on an individual basis along with a donation to the Chapter.
  • Airport open house:  The possibility of an open house at Riverview airport was discussed.  Memorial day activities may include a lunch, Young Eagle flights, and afternoon act ivies.  Mike Dubois and Dick Foster will meet look in combining EAA

Chapter 145, Great Lakes Aviation club, and Riverview Airport for the open house.

  • Other BusinessBill Willyard reported that the heat works in the EAA hanger and the wall covering will soon be done.  Any one who would like to donate their work or money is welcome.  Dick Foster received a recognition letter from EAA headquarters for having flown over 700 Young Eagles.

Program:  Todd Olsen gave us an overview of the Kent Skills Center aviation program.  He stated the need to increase interest in aviation the groups of youths outside of the skill centers.  He is working on a Cessna 150 static display that can be folded up so it will fit through a 6x7’ door, then assembled to full size.  He plans to take this “display” C-150 to various schools and locations to promote interest in general aviation.  He asked if EAA 145 members would like to help with this project.  Several members agreed to help him with the “conversion” of the C-150.  EAA145 could have an EAA logo on the C-150 and information about the chapter would be made available.  If you would like more information contact Todd Olson at:  301-8831.
